Birchall Tea

A plastic-free, family-owned, British tea company

Birchall Tea

English Breakfast and Herbal Teas, which have won 98 Great Taste Awards

Birchall Tea, a tea house originally started in 1872, remains one of the last remaining (if not only!) family owned British tea business.

These are officially the tastiest teas available in the UK, as they have won a mighty 98 Great Taste Awards.

And with such heritage brings great responsibility.

Which is why this tea company only thinks about doing business over the long term.

What are Birchall Tea’s environmental and sustainability credentials?

Today, Birchall has the only solar-powered tea factory in Britain.

Their factory sits proudly between Bracknell and Bath (north of Salisbury to be exact).

The roof houses 430 solar panels, producing double their electricity needs, with the excess pumping straight back into the National Grid.

In 2020, their good work was even certified through the Carbon Neutral International Standard, proving the company is 100% carbon neutral.

But it’s not just their production they worry about, it’s the tea they make, too.

That’s why their plant-based tea bags are completely plastic free and fully biodegradable.

The material every tea bag is made out of is also thought about. As Birchall tea bags are made from renewable cellulose, they’re certified as fully home and/or commercially compostable.

A truly circular tea company.
