Fix8 Kombucha
A low-calorie, plant-based, sparkling drinks packed with live cultures
Fix8 Founder Freya first discovered kombucha on her travels around Shanghi, China, after her doctor called it “the tea of immortality”.
From there, she’d be the first to admit the booch took hold and never looked back.
She started studying all things gut health, selling home brew to her friends, and travelled to Bali, Berlin, Hawaii, Portland, and California to meet world-leading makers in her kombucha thirst.
It was in 2018 that Fix8 was born though, when Freya returned to the UK and almost immediately launched into Selfridges.
With it all being made here in the UK.
So what is kombucha?
Kombucha is a fermented tea drink, with only four ingredients:
water
tea
sugar
SCOBY
It’s renowned as a healthy drink, with each Fix8 can containing over 2 Billion probiotics.
It’s also vegan and vegetarian friendly, gluten-free, lactose-free, nut-free and, of course, alcohol-free, too.
What on earth is SCOBY?
First things first, let’s get the burning worry out of the way.
No, Scooby-Doo is not one of the ingredients.
SCOBY (pronounced “skoh-bee”) actually stands for Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast.
Non-technically, that means it’s the “mother” culture that starts the kombucha’s fermentation.
Those who became cracking covid-era sourdough bakers will know exactly what we’re trying to get at here.
But, for you and I, we can think of SCOBY as a little jelly good-bacteria pancake. It floats in the drink during the fermentation process, turning the sweet tea into a sour and fizzy kombucha.
Back to dogs though as here, finally, is your tenuous link. The SCOBY in kombucha needs to be burped occasionally during fermentation, just like Scooby-Doo does.
